Romero to cover potential De Gea exit – Van Gaal

Manchester United s capture of Sergio Romero will cover the potential exit of David de Gea, with Louis van Gaal still unsure where his first-choice goalkeeper s future lies.

De Gea has been constantly linked with a move to Real Madrid in the wake of Iker Casillas departure from the Santiago Bernabeu, having blossomed into one of the Premier League s top shot-stoppers.

Though new Real coach Rafael Benitez has remained non-committal on his interest so far, even backing Keylor Navas as his new number one, talk of former Atletico Madrid man De Gea returning to the Spanish capital has not died down.

Romero completed his move to Old Trafford on Monday, penning a three-year deal with the 20-time Premier League champions.

And with Victor Valdes set to leave the c…

Pjanic urges Morata and De Ligt caution amid Barcelona links

Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic has warned Alvaro Morata and Matthijs de Ligt to think carefully before joining the Catalan club.

Morata is currently on loan at Juventus from Atletico Madrid, but reports suggest new Blaugrana head coach Xavi wants to further bolster his attack by signing the forward after already acquiring Ferran Torres.

Barca cannot register Torres, or any other potential signings, until they have offloaded players to negotiate salary-cap difficulties, though they have been linked in recent days to numerous attackers.

Club president Joan Laporta seemingly feels his LaLiga outfit are back in the market after telling the world that Barca have returned, with speculation even suggesting a move for Erling Haaland.

However, Pjanic, who is…

Croatia 0 Portugal 1 (aet): Quaresma earns quarter-final berth

Ricardo Quaresma struck a dramatic winner late in the second half of extra time as Portugal scraped past Croatia 1-0 in a dour Euro 2016 last-16 encounter in Lens.

Portugal advanced to the knockout stages following an electric 3-3 draw with Hungary in Lyon, but Saturday s game could not have contrasted more starkly.

Although Marcelo Brozovic and Domagoj Vida had decent opportunities in the second half, the regulation 90 minutes finished without a shot on target for the first time at a major tournament since 1980.

Ivan Perisic rattled the upright in the second additional period, but Portugal struck the decisive blow following a swift break emanating from that near miss.

Nani, who became the fourth player to reach 100 caps for his country, scuffed a shot ac…

Ten Hag uncertain Ronaldo will stay at Man Utd

Although there are reportedly no clubs currently interested in him, uncertainty stoked by press speculation continues to cloud Ronaldo s future; and while Ten Hag says he wants the Portugal striker to stay, he was hardly convincing when asked if that will be the case.

Speaking following Saturday s 1-0 win at Southampton, during which Ronaldo endured an error-strewn second-half cameo, Ten Hag said:  We plan with him. So we want him to stay. So that is what we want.

Ten Hag was then asked if Ronaldo would definitely remain if he wanted him to stay, and the Dutchman looked unsure as he hesitated to answer.

With something of a shrug, he replied: I hope so.

The transfer window closes on Thursday, and United are expected to be active in the market before the…

Tevez: United only complained after I left

Former Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez has claimed the club never offered him a deal before he moved to cross-town rivals City in 2009.

The Argentine forward moved to Boca Juniors at the end of last season having won two league titles at Juventus.

Before Juventus, Tevez also enjoyed successful stints at United, winning two Premier League titles and a Champions League crown, before moving to cross-town rivals City where he won another Premier League title and an FA Cup.

His move to City drew the ire of United supporters and then-manager Alex Ferguson, but Tevez said he never had the option of extending his stay at Old Trafford.

With Ferguson nothing happened, it was a normal relationship, he told Marca.

I spent two years on loan at United …

Barcelona show interest in Jorginho

According to a recent report from Tuttomercatoweb, Jorginho’s agent’s recent trip to Barcelona has ramped up speculation regarding his future.

The man associated with great penalties, aside from the one he fluffed in the Euro 2021 final, has also been a loyal servant to Chelsea Football Club across the last few years. The Italian midfielder is a consistent figure for the Blues and throughout his tenure at Stamford Bridge, he’s provided them with many great moments.

Alas, the future direction of the first team under Graham Potter has left many wondering about what the next step is going to be for Jorginho, especially given that he could become a free agent as soon as next year.

As he prepares to turn 31 in December, you’d have to imagine that if he’s go…

Eriksen ´enjoying the moment´ with Brentford ahead of Tottenham reunion

Christian Eriksen says he is enjoying the moment at Brentford, but refused to commit to his next steps ahead of a reunion with former club Tottenham on Saturday.

The Denmark international will face his old club for the first time since he linked up with the Bees in January, a move which came seven months after his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

The playmaker has defied expectations to make a full return to football after his collapse in Copenhagen last summer, and has been at the heart of Brentford s revival since arriving.

He will reunite with Spurs for the first time since he left for Inter in 2020 this weekend, as well as with former Nerazzurri boss Antonio Conte.

Those close links have fuelled speculation he could return to his former North London ho…
